Satellite Telemetry of Eleonora's Falcon migration

Follow the migratory journey of the falcons For the first time in Greece, satellite telemetry is being used for tracking of Eleonora's Falcons migration from Greece to their wintering areas in SE Africa and Madagascar, in order to investigate the migration routes followed by the birds.

DVD Documentary for Eleonora's Falcon
DVD Documentary for Eleonora A DVD documentary (in Greek language and English subtitles) was produced by the HOS within the framework of the LIFE-Nature project "Conservation measures for Falco eleonorae in Greece". You may guess who is the star of this documentary ... "the pirate of the Aegean".

The aim of this documentary which contains scenes from the census and monitoring activities in 2004 and 2005 from all around the Aegean Archipelagos, is to point out the necessity of implementing conservation measures in order to protect Eleonora's Falcon, and also to present this raptor species and make it familiar to the wider public.

At the same time the documentary promotes not only the importance of the Eleonora's Falcon on the national level, as Greece hosts round the 80% of it's global population, but it also indicates the importance of small uninhabited islands as sensitive ecosystems with priceless biodiversity value.

It is well known that environmental education plays a key role in affecting conservation attitudes and enhancement of public awareness is essential for the long-term conservation of the species. So we hope this documentary will prove a useful tool for the public awareness campaign across the Aegean by providing images, sounds and experiences from ornithologists and volunteers who participated in some of the LIFE conservation actions. Moreover we can't forget that the protection of our natural heritage is a duty of all citizens and not only an expert's obligation.

For more information concerning the acquisition of the DVD documentary you may contact HOS Central Office in Athens. Tel/Fax: 210 8228704 and 210 8227937.
