Falco eleonorae Life-Nature Project: News

Rat eradication in the National Marine Park of the Northern Sporades (29-03-2006)
In the spring 2005, started a project for the eradication of rats from 3 small islets, Kasidis, Lachanou and Polemika near Skantzoura in the National Marine Park of Northern Sporades


Continuation of the census and monitoring actions for Eleonora’s Falcon in the Aegean Sea for 2005 (21-12-2005)
Though the processing and evaluation of the collected data is still in progress, the first estimations indicate incontestably that Greece is the most important country for the breeding of Eleonora's Falcon worldwide


Public awareness campaign of the HOS in the Aegean on the occasion of the LIFE-Falco eleonorae project. (21-12-2005)
This year, Eleonora's Falcon "traveled" to many islands of the Aegean through a series of presentations organized by the HOS between July and September 2005


Organizing a Seminar for the Training of Wardens in Protected Natural Areas (10-04-2005)
The training seminar was crowned with success and took place at the Cultural Centre of Apeiranthos in Naxos for the 16th-19th of March, 2005, with the kind support of the community of Apeiranthos and the City of Drymalia that once again assisted the work


Training seminar for wardens in protected areas (28-02-2005)
The HOS (Hellenic Ornithological Society) is organizing a seminar for the training of wardens working in protected areas, in the context of the European Project LIFE-Nature for the protection of Falco eleonorae


Information kiosk in Kalymnos (26-10-2004)
The HOS kiosk in Pothia (capital city of Kalymnos) had a successful season in its first year of operation as part of HOS's Falco eleonorae project.


Census 2004 (21-09-2004)
HOS has once again set sail in the Aegean Sea. Ornithologists and volunteers comb the Aegean to count and monitor the Eleonora's Falcon population.


Free as birds (21-09-2004)
Six falcons of the species Falco eleonorae were released on Wednesday, 25th August 2004, at the foot of Agios Ilias mountain on the island of Naxos.
