Site Description
A mountainous area including the gorge of the Selinous river. The lower slopes are covered with Pinus forests and maquis. At high altitudes Abies forest and subalpine grasslands dominate. Human activities include forestry, stock-raising, and hunting.

Habitats: Artificial landscapes (15%, Arable land), Coastline/rocky areas (20%, Inland cliffs), Forest (20%, Native coniferous woodland), Grassland (20%, Alpine, subalpine and boreal grassland), Shrubland (20%, Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis), Wetland (5%, Rivers and streams)

Land use: agriculture, forestry, tourism/recreation, urban/industrial/transport

National None International High

10762 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) ZOUMPATA-AGIOS CHARALAMPOS-MARMPAS-KLOKOS(GR2320010).

This is an important area for breeding raptors. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Falco naumanni (5 breeding pairs).

Conservation issues
The main threats include road construction, illegal logging, pollution of the river (`Other' threats), and illegal hunting. A LIFE-funded project is producing a management plan. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
