The Bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) is one of the rarest raptors in Europe. It inhabits exclusively high mountainous areas. It can be found usually above the tree line, in rugged areas with steep slopes and in alpine pastures.

Slender-billed Curlew is a medium-sized wader, one of the 6 curlews of the same genus living in our world. It nests somewhere in NW Siberia, where in the 20s very few nests were found. Thenceforth, no one could ever find even one nest again, even though the species may still breed, even in extremely few numbers.

Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca) is one of the most rare birds of prey of Europe. Its range spans from NE Europe to Lake Baikal and northern Pakistan. In Europe, the species occurs mainly in the Carpathians, south and east Balkans, hills and steppes of NE Ukraine and Russia.

White-headed duck is an unusual duck, easily distinguished by everyone lucky enough to observe it in a wetland. Drake has a large white head, black neck and bluish "swollen bill", while its body is light brown and its spiked stiff tail is often erected, giving it a distinct silhouette.

Eleonora's Falcon is a medium sized falcon with characteristic long wings and tail and very skillful flight.

Audouin's Gull (Larus audouinii) is the only gull occurring only in the Mediterranean.

The Pygmy Cormorant lives in wetlands with still or slowly flowing fresh water and more rarely, at winter, in coastal wetlands. It breeds in colonies on reedbeds or dense trees, alone or along with herons, Cormorants, Spoonbils, etc. It feeds on small fish and rarely on small aquatic mammals and molluscs, caught with dives.

Ferruginous Duck (Aythya nyroca) is a relatively small diving duck, as it dives to obtain its food (insect larvae, molluscs but also aquatic plants). One of the least fancy ducks, it is uniformly dark red-chestnut with a white belly and under tail coverts.

Bonelli's Eagle is not a globally threatened species (IUCN), while BirdLife International classifies it as a European threatened species. In Greece, it is listed as Vulnerable in the Greek Red Book.

The Lesser White-fronted Goose (Anser erythropus) is a small goose with dark grey-brown plumage, and dark bars on belly. It has a small and short pink bill, its feet are orange, while wings outstrip tail’s edge when they are closed.

The Dalmatian Pelican is the rarest of the world's seven pelican species and the second biggest bird species on the planet (1,20 m tall, wings spread up to 3,2 m, weighing 6-10 kg). This waterfowl species has light ash-coloured plumage and a characteristic long bill with an expandable pouch beneath. Its feet are short and strong, fingers connected with webs of skin.

Απειλή για σημαντική περιβαλλοντική οπισθοδρόμηση εγκυμονεί το νομοσχέδιο "Επιτάχυνση Μεγάλων Έργων - Στρατηγικών Επενδύσεων" το οποίο έθεσε από τις 6 Αυγούστου σε δημόσια ηλεκτρονική διαβούλευση ο Υπουργός Επικράτειας σύμφωνα με τις περιβαλλοντικές οργανώσεις WWF Ελλάς, Ελληνική Ορνιθολογική Εταιρεία, Ελληνική Εταιρεία Προστασίας της Φύσης, Ελληνική Εταιρεία Περιβάλλοντος και Πολιτισμού, Αρχέλων, Αρκτούρος, MOm Εταιρεία Μελέτης και Προστασίας της Μεσογειακής Φώκιας, Δίκτυο Μεσόγειος SOS και Καλλιστώ.

Φέτος, για 13η χρονιά, η Ελληνική Ορνιθολογική Εταιρεία δραστηριοποιείται στην προστατευόμενη περιοχή της λιμνοθάλασσας Γιάλοβα εφαρμόζοντας δράσεις προστασίας του περιβάλλοντος και ενημέρωσης των επισκεπτών αλλά και των κατοίκων της περιοχής.

Μεγάλη απογοήτευση προκαλεί η πρώτη Ρυθμιστική Απόφαση για το κυνήγι από το νέο Υπουργείο Περιβάλλοντος για την περίοδο 2010-2011. Οι πολλές υποσχέσεις και εξαγγελίες του Υπουργείου για επίλυση των νομικών κωλυμάτων σε σχέση με τις Ευρωπαϊκής Οδηγίες και τη δημιουργία ενός νέου θεσμικού πλαισίου για το κυνήγι στην Ελλάδα, πριν την έκδοση της φετινής Ρυθμιστικής Απόφασης, δεν υλοποιήθηκαν ποτέ.

Την καταστροφική κοπή αγριόκεδρων σε μεγάλη έκταση καθώς και την ισοπέδωση αμμόλοφων μέσα στην προστατευόμενη περιοχή της λιμνοθάλασσας Γιάλοβας καταγγέλει η Ελληνική Ορνιθολογική Εταιρεία.

Η Ορνιθολογική χαιρετίζει την πρωτοβουλία του Υπουργείου Περιβάλλοντος να αντιμετωπίσει τα πολλά προβλήματα με την χρηματοδότηση των δράσεων προστασίας και διαχείρισης του περιβάλλοντος. Παρόλα αυτά το παρόν νομοσχέδιο δεν αντικατοπτρίζει τις προσδοκίες μας για ένα διαφανές και καλά σχεδιασμένο και στοχοθετημένο Πράσινο Ταμείο.
