The Hellenic Ornithological Society is the only Non-Governmental Organization in Greece that deals exclusively with the study and protection of Wild Birds and their Habitats. It is a Non-Profit Society whose continuous efforts and contributions to the protection of Greece's Natural environment has led it to receive awards both Internationally (1987 Ford European Conservation Award) and Nationally (1993 Academy of Athens-Environmental Protection Award).
