On the weekend of 10 and 11 May 2025 eBird Greece invites you to participate in the Complete List Birding Challenge! A joint effort of the birdwatchers of Greece to highlight the birdlife of our country by uploading Complete Lists on eBird and most importantly… having fun!
The Complete List Birding Challenge has a double role: it includes the Global Big Day on Saturday, while combined with Sunday it is part of a wider data collection effort in SE Europe, in the framework of the LIFE EBP reinforcement project.
>> Those who complete at least 5 Complete Lists in different locations, in each hotspot or personal neighborhood will be entered in the draw to win prizes from Ornithologiki (birdwatching guides, buff & t-shirts for 5 lucky winners)!

A few words about Global Big Day
On May 10, 2025 eBird is organizing a big celebration: the Global Big Day!
On this global event, birdwatchers and eBirders around the world will take our binoculars and go out birdwatching.
We invite you to participate in Global Big Day by passing your eBird sightings to complete lists. Even 10 minutes of observing in your neighborhood can be worth a lot!
Our goal is to make our records more effective – and the Greek eBird community is succeeding! Last year, 85 observers participated in the Global Big Day, recording 226 bird species in 169 lists. This year, we set a goal of 200 FULL lists!
Reminder: A Complete Checklist is a list that contains all the bird species that an observer spotted and identified in a particular area at a particular time. That is, it is a list where the observer reports all species without intentionally omitting any.
A few words about Complete List Birding Challenges
In the framework of the LIFE EBP reinforcement project, which aims to increase the quality and quantity of ornithological data in Greece and SE Europe, the Data Collection Challenges are being implemented.
As a partner in the project, the Hellenic Ornithological Society participates in the challenges action by organizing at national level the two-day Complete List Birding Challenges, which will take place every 3 months and will have common dates with similar challenges in other SEE countries.
Overall, the Complete List Birding Challenges will feed into SEELists, which includes data from complete lists in countries in the wider region, but also gives us insight into the migration phenology and presence of selected bird species.
